NewsGREEN GULF PROJECT Dec.2005:
A workshop organized jointly by the Dubai based Gulf Research
Center and the New Delhi based Tata Energy and Resources Institute
called for developing a sustainable development model for the
Gulf Cooperation Countries. This workshop, which was held as
a part of the Green Gulf Project, aimed to address the problems
of unsustainable production and consumption in the region by
ensuring the availability of consistent and reliable data, which
will help in devising and implementing such solutions. EXPERT MEETING ON ENERGY The Economic and Social Council for Western Asia held an Expert Group Meeting on "Promoting awareness and Participation in Developing Sustainable Energy Policies and Systems" between 2 - 5 th February 2003 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The meeting was the Energy Team's second post World Summit for Sustainable Development activity. The meeting discussed the discrepancy between countries in energy sector planning, the role of gender empowerment for poverty alleviation in the energy sector, benefiting from existing experience inter and intra regionally and taking measures to support participation in issues related to energy and sustainable development in the region. For more information on the meeting, see http://www.escwa.org.lb WORLD WATER FORUM The ESCOWA will be participating in the World Water Forum that is being held in Kyoto between 16 th and 23 rd March 2003.
